This is very cool. I know that some people will find this distasteful, but I think its powerful. Eventually they will be able to repair genetic damage when its detected, or even allow parents to select specific characteristics such as eye/hair color, height tendancy, etc. Perhaps even effecting what things their children will find interests in.

They will probably find out in a few years that removing that gene make her more predisposed to some other life threatening illness. But I do think its cool we are finally able to do things like this.

i don't think they removed anything. They just took some viable eggs, read their genetic markers and said "these don't have that cancer gene".

Doctors at the private clinic housed at University College Hospital conducted tests on 11 embryos by removing just one cell from each when they were three days old. Six embryos were found to carry the defective BRCA1 gene.
What happens to the rest? I'm surprised the extremist pro-lifers aren't all over this, feigning their usual moral outrage.

The two that didn't have the gene were implanted one survived to be a healthy baby with normal life expectancy. The father I think was the carrier of the defective gene. The rest naturally were discarded.
