Multitudes use the bible to justify their beliefs and actions through false gospels and such, leading to the destruction of countless lives..Don't fret though, the bible will be banished soon enough. Catholics don't read it as a rule...... But the book certainly does not fire bullets.

True but it certainly contains lots of horrific tales.

The most heinous crimes and the most cruel crimes of which history has record have been committed under the cover of religion or equally noble motives--Gandhi.

This seems to be a more accurate statement than Thomas Paine's, especially since the bible hasn't been around quite as long as cruelty has.

And when Paine speaks here of the "Bible", I believe he is referring to the Old Testament, as most critics do, as opposed to the new.
