Hrm. Interesting. My surname is Hudson and my grandfather traced my paternal lineage back to 1605 England. Hudson = son of Hud, which I always assumed was Anglo-Saxon, but I couldn't find it in there

It does warn that spelling change.
h means silent in Irish which may explain the Irish difficulty with 'th'.
