can't believe this! Great clip. Combating ignorance is always important. The Western perception of Iranian women is that they live difficult, oppressed lives. This is not surprising considering it is a perception that is largely forced upon us by those with other agendas and a media that on the whole follows the perpetrators of such agendas. There is a real truth out there for everything, but if you want it you have to go out and get it.... There are of course, as well, human rights issues which need to be addressed in Iran and for that matter many other places including the USA. I believe that there is a small but thriving Jewish community in Iran as well as Christians and that they are generally left alone. The Christian community in Iran has a special legal status – Christians are permitted to drink alcohol and dance so long as they are not in the company of Muslims.New info for me and surprising. Very best of ClipMarks. Informative without preaching to receptive viewers. Hopefully 'Iranian' in the title doesn't turn off the odd non-receptive mind. Thanks for sharing this view of Iranian women. I never really thought about how their lives were, but if I had to have guessed, I would've guessed that they were oppressed and everything. I'm glad to see a different side of Middle Eastern women. Telling isn't it? One of the more salient features of Western imperialism is its ethnocentrism. By demonizing other cultures as backward or savage, we consolidate our right to extinguish them. In this case, our prejudices are about women's clothing. If Muslim women cover their heads, it's because their oppressed or brainwashed... as if these women had no minds of their own. Our presumption is that Muslim women are not responsible agents so everything must be the men's fault... including their society's puritan ethic. If the women don't cover their heads, it's because they're "liberated." Whatever they do it will be interpreted in terms of Western ideals ..i.e. feminism. That's a very interesting comment Kauaiguy. I have never thought that Iranian women were repressed. I remember the Hostage situation in the 70s. I think in the years leading up to that was the last time the Iranian people were represented as they really are. Iranian pop-culture is very similar to our own and in general, they are a very progressive, educated society. Remember, they are descendants of the Persian empire, who contributed invaluably to our understanding of medicine and chemistry. They developed Trigonometry.( Little known mathematics teacher trivia) and algebra. They also made contributions to horticulture and literature. I believe they were among the world's first monotheists, but don't hold me to that one. It's the ... i don't believe iranians are so cute gals. Meeeooooww. Hiss i talk to woman in Iran vie, skypes small world Now ask yourself why American media has put all this in the dark to keep Americans ignorant. It is not just the government that plays on ignorance, it is the media that deliberately misleads about Iran, either through blackout or through select exposure. There are also 25,000 Jews who practice freely their own orthodox religion and have representatives in Parliament. One more time, the major media corporations (of the networks) are largely Jewish Zionists in their boardrooms and CEOs. So who is fomenting the wars? Zionist Jews Zionist JewsGa, who would have guessed. One more time, the major media corporations (of the networks) are largely Jewish Zionists in their boardrooms and CEOs. So who is fomenting the wars? And I thought that it was only Hollywood that they controlled. So fox is owned by ... No wonder they can claim it is fair and balanced. I've heard similar from Israeli spokespersons after they've wipped out women and children. |
