Wow. I had not thought of it like that masbury. This puts a lot in perspective. I for one, will not now wonder why certain people automatically dissent whenever others' of there same dissent attack others using terror as a tactic. Thank you for the new perspective, masbury.

It is easy to characterize those not like me as "other" - to see them in generalities rather than as individuals. Good stuff MAS.

Interesting the the poster misses the point of the post completely. The point, of course, is that if you are part of a very large group (Christians, Muslims, etc.) you have a greater understanding of that group than the people outside of the group. Since most of what we (in the "mainstream") hear from Muslims is in the context of violent acts our thoughts run that way. It has nothing to do with this white privilege nonsense. Muslims will also have certain views of whites/Christians/Etc that most of us (outside of the Muslim group) will disagree with.

Greg, having a greater knowledge of your own group than others' groups has nothing to do with the size of it; every group member has such knowledge.

The dominant group in a culture defines what is normal behavior. In the USA, with a few exceptions, that behavior is white and middle class. It freights every relationship, every business transaction, every legal matter, every doctor's appointment. Every other group must interact with that standard and be judged by it in a way that we who are white in the USA largely don't even see.

As you demonstrate.

To paraphrase Dorothy Parker:

"White Christian males are not normal, just common."
