"The defense had tried unsuccessfully to have Williams declared mentally unfit to stand trial..."
why? Are they sick or what?

The REAL Napster
Well...if they are mentally unfit to stand trial
AND they killed someone
I'd say that's 2 strikes against them already.

Many people don't like it, especially in a case with this sort of horrendous crime, but the job of the defense attorney is to DEFEND the man. His job is not to throw up his hands and say, "Hey fry the guy for all I care."
So I wouldn't consider the defense to be "sick" for attempting an insanity defense. Our legal system allows everyone the ability to attempt to put on a defense.
At least in the pre-Bush "enemy combatant" era.

I would. Too many crooked lawyers out there trying to get plea bargains, reduce sentencing or even claim that the defendant is 'unfit to stand trial' falsely. Lawyers are paid to lie better than the other guy. I have seen enough of them to know first hand.

Please humor me for a minute. Let's assume that not all lawyers are crooked. (I notice you don't claim they all are.) If he has an honest lawyer who believes in his ethical duty to defend his client to the best of his ability. What course of action would you suggest that lawyer take? While I don't know any details of his lawyers bear in mind that lawyers are sometimes (if not often) appointed by the court to defend someone and don't seek those clients out themselves.

Just hypothetically, Napster, but say you were framed for murder and nobody believed your innocence and yer lawyer just phoned in yer defense...hmmm?

"We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us." The truth is Civil Rights have curtailed the actions of the defender to the detriment of the victim. I have argued with the problem of capital punishment from a perspective of one of those rough men. I sleep soundly at night because I know that those I killed had to be killed. I see no difference with this creature. My place though has not been filled by the Liberal Pinkoes who have nothing but weasley words for victims.

Death penalty should be available for crimes such as this!
