Skwirl, off this clip. Could you please help me? You seem as if you know what you're doing on the computer. Yahoo took over my Firefox (it's set to Google) and so I erased the Yahoo toolbar from my computer. Now when I open Firefox it opens in Google as usual, but here's the rub, for reasons unknown, it has erased all my Bookmarks (thousands of them). Is there any way I could retrieve these Bookmarks or are they lost forever? I'm weeping, wailing and gnashing my teeth. Please advise. Many thanks. Ok, if the bookmarks were saved to the yahoo toolbar. Go sign in to yahoo http://us.bookmarks.yahoo.com/ and Export your bookmarks to your hard drive as Firefox bookmarks http://us.bookmarks.yahoo.com/tools/showexport Remember where you put them (desktop) Then Click ORGANISE BOOKMARKS in the firefox command bar at the top. A window will open. It will be all of your FF bookmarks. Go to the file command of that window and click IMPORT Find the file you just made and select it and select import - Follow the prompts. If the bookmarks were in Firefox First select organise bookmarks as above and see if your bookmarks are in place, If they are you probably just turned off the bookmark toolbar. In the FF window click VIEW, then TOOLBARS and see if there is a check by the bookmarks toolbar choice. If not- click it so there is. If that is how you got rid of yahoo you did it wrong. Yahoo toolbar has to be uninstalled using the uninstall menu. If you have crap cleaner you can get rid of it with its uninstall feature. If the FF bookmarks don't show at all you will have to find the file in your FF main folder probably under chrome or something(I'm not sure where FF puts the backup) (I save mine to a folder I made in MyDocuments called Bookmarks. If the bookmarks were saved to Google toolbar You may need to go into the toolbar preferences and select the bookmarks icon to show on the toolbar. You can sign in to google and find your bookmarks http://www.google.com/bookmarks/?hl=en If they show up on that page - Scroll down and on the left collumn you can export those to your hard drive too(Same thing) Then import them to your firefox bookmarks. Instead of deleting those bookmark files rename them with the date and make a folder for them for archives. Suggestion YaHo051108bm and Goo051108bm are nice file names for archives You can also export import to and from IE if you want. Thanks ever so much Skwirl. I'm going to follow your advice. At the moment all hell is breaking loose on my computer and I'm about ready to drop-kick it through the window. Big hugs Skwirl, and thanks once again. Get spyware blaster, spybot search & Destroy, Windows defender and ccleaner Also, make sure you have all your updates. Stop clicking on junk, don't open email unless you know what it is and run your scans 1x week. You are likely spyware infected Yahoo is good for spyware and system problems like AOL is |
