So when a journalist who admits in this column to being in the tank for McCain before has a choice between a sort-of Republican and a real-live socialist why would you think he wouldn't go with his heart? The "scales falling from the eyes" of the media just mean they are throwing him overboard now that he looks like he has a chance against the one they really want?

Which of course now makes him acceptable (if not beloved) by the extreme right.

Whatever it takes to win and keep the Republicans in power.
