Sound In Space

Oh boy. This is a particular peeve of mine. In Superman II they are talking in space. wth?

Honestly, I think science fiction would be a lot more boring if it dumped all of these conventions. I do not think verisimilitude is always a virtue (then again, verisimilitude is not necessarily a barrier to good stories either, and can itself be a source of quality fiction).

I have been reading some science fiction short stories lately and I think they suffer more from unoriginal plotting and pat, polemical moral messages than from a lack of appreciation for the Butterfly effect.

Having said, I have to agreed with BNM that sound in space is a pretty egregious violation of the suspension of disbelief.
