If you want to get the "real experience" try to find tapes of the original BBC radio series. It was originally written by Adams as a radio show for the BBC back in '78. I was 19 and it completely blew me away. (It also started a life-long love affair with BBC Radio 4 - but anyway). The subsequent TV series and film never quite captured the "feel" of the radio show (the books are great though), but maybe that's just an age/nostalgia thing.
