I think conspiracy theories satisfy the need people have to explain, what to them, is not yet explained satisfactorily. Be it 9/11, UFO's or any other sort of stuff like that. Actually, that's a great question. I think people who find the idea of intelligent design appealing tend also to find conspiracy theories appealing. I mean, "intelligent design" amounts to a massive conspiracy theory, doesn't it? And I say that seriously, without intending to mock people who believe in intelligent design. But as far as I can tell, the whole rationale behind intelligent design is more or less the same as the rationale behind conspiracy theories. It goes like this: "look at all these events -- they just fit together too well to be coincidence -- so someone must have planned the whole thing!" It's just that for most conspiracies, the planner is some hidden evil genius; in intel... Somebody needs to point out to Kirk Cameron that he has no qualification, either in religion or in science, to be making such an uproar about evolution. If I want to be "educated" about being a spoiled child star, then I'll turn to Kirk Cameron. If I want to know about evolution, then I'll go to someone called a SCIENTIST. The fact that bad TV actors are as important to the ID movement as those "creation scientists" with degrees from online religious "universities" shows how bankrupt the whole thing is... |
