masbury says: Sen. Kyl proposed an amendment to the budget bill prohibiting use of any of its funds for assistance to Palestinian refugees resettling in the USA - the first time refugees would have been officially discriminated against by nationality in US law. 12,000 AIUSA volunteers emailed or faxed the Senate. Kyl withdrew it. Bastard. Thanks Senator, you proven that you can sink lower than expected. What, are you afraid that the refugees might talk about their experiences under the occupation? isn't it against the constitution? I don't think it's against the Constitution, is it? Although there are all sort of discrimination and preferences on who gets in the country or not: quota systems, for sure but then amazing policies like any Cuban who gets his foot on dry USA land is automatically given refugee status... I'm not opposed to Cubans (or anyone) getting refugee status but this points out how USA policy and attitudes have preferences. P.S. - The U.S. Constitution deals with a citizens rights and obligations in relations with the Federal government. As such it is the "highest law of the land." But treaties the the "second highest law of the land," and maybe there are treaty issues involved in refugees, etc. Amnesty Int'l does some great work. I've donated a few dollars, sent letters, signed petitions, etc that they've sent me. No matter what they cause, more pour in. It's never ending. The atrocities in this world out weigh the help that's out there. I really do like what they're doing. |
