Living in waters about 15 feet deep, they seem to prefer squeezing themselves into cracks in the coral reef rather than swimming around. That may be why no one has noticed them before. They also have unusual flattened faces with their eyes facing forward. Most fish have eyes on the sides of their heads so each eye sees a different view. From photographs, Ted Pietsch, a professor of aquatic and fishery sciences at the University of Washington, identified the fish as an angler fish, which typically has lures protruding from its forehead to attract prey. The new anglerfish does not have a lure. </DIV></blockquote></div><div style="margin: 0px 6px 6px 4px;"><table style="font-size: 11px;border-spacing: 0px;padding: 0px;" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"><tr><td style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;"> </td><td align="right" style="background:transparent;border-width:0px;padding:0px;width:107px" width="107"><a href="http://clipmarks.com/share/FB2E8780-C567-47AB-AA6A-FE973728445E/blog/" title="blog or email this clip"><img src="http://content8.clipmarks.com/images/c2b-foot.png" border="0" alt="blog it" width="107" height="17" style="border-width:0px;padding:0px;margin:0px;" /></a></td></tr></table></div></div>
