Interesting that World War III is being retroactively declared in 2006, after things haven't been going so well for the Bush admin.

My reactions are pretty much a combination of all of y'alls...OMGWTFBBQ! and He's so doing it to make himself look good.

The man makes my physically sick.

"He's so doing it to make himself look good."

Mission impossible?

Maybe he's thinking long-term... i.e. in 2025, how prominent will I be in the Wikipedia entry for "world war 3"?

I would like to believe it is 'Mission Impossible', but then I thought that during both elections.

Exactly adamc, he is all about history being the 'true' judge. wanker

If we lauch Nukes (no matter the amount) at Tehran - then WW3 will have begun. Since the administration has pissed most other nations off at us - except perhaps the leader of the Brits - we are almost sure to stand alone (ok perhaps Israel will still support us).

This is like watching a bad movie.....

I think WWIII is more likely to start in Taiwan.

Officially Taiwan is Chinese now... I can see major reaction against China on this, but not going to war over Taiwan.

Speaking of WWIII, did anyone read about the N. Korea long-range ballistic missile testing?

And I can only shake my head in disgust everytime I hear something come out of Bush's mouth.

Some of us have been saying this is WW3 for years. This is not new. As much as some of you hate this country.. We are not the bad guys here. You can have your consipicy theories, hatred for the president, digust for American values, and at the same time stand up for all that is disgusting and sinister in society. I thank God for those in America that still know our place and make this country work and defend it, while this clipmarks forum occupies those of you who can do and will do nothing great in your lives.

Willhelm, your propaganda is just that.

As much as some of you hate this country.. We are not the bad guys here.
Saying it doesn't make it true. We oppose authoritarianism in the guise of national security, because we LIKE the country we believe in. We oppose the totalitarian behavior of the likes of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and others.
5-22-2006 9:55 PM
brazilnut72
Merican, I don't know you personally, so I will refrain from passing judgment on you as a person. I will say, however, that there is a fine line between "opposing authoritarianism in the guise of national security" and "opposing national security"--and IMHO the "patriotic left" crosses that line with monotonous regularity.
5-22-2006 9:58 PM

and it only crosses this line for the sake of getting back in power, certainly not for any patriotic reasons.

Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel, or for some of you, a fool
5-22-2006 10:07 PM

Merican, The fact you use the word authoritarianism in the context of debate about American Politics and Policy shows just how ignorant you are. So we are all scoudrels, if we are patriotic? My patriotism has nothing whatsoever to do with my politics. Obviously, your patriotism and politics are tied. Whis make you the fool!!
5-22-2006 10:08 PM
brazilnut72
So we are all scoudrels, if we are patriotic?
Good point!
5-22-2006 10:13 PM
Merican
No, the point of the quote is that soundrels prefer to attack patroitism AS YOU DID, rather than face the reality of poor policy choices.

As to the authoritarianism, suspending civil rights, suspending the 4th amendment, suspending the COURT's ability to supervise police-like investigations, suspending habeus corpus, secret prisions, torture, refusing to follow legitimate laws... these are the essence of authoritarianism... it isn't polemics.
5-22-2006 10:27 PM

Merican, Your invective and point of view has absolutely nothing to do with reality. You repeat the same noise over and over. You are a broken record of anti-American propoganda.

Willhelm, I was raised with core american DEMOCRATIC values. Deomcratic not in the party, but in the sense of beliving in freedom and democracy. I do not believe in powerful people in the center telling me what to do, that is Stalinism. George Bush is a Stalinist. I can't stand him. What I don't understand is why all you republicans want a Stalinist as your leader.
5-22-2006 10:34 PM
willhelm
Merican, I really don't doubt your sincerety as much as you might think. But, there is no rational discussion to be had when you call Bush a Stalinist. I am no Bush fan, He basically is no different from Clinton in my view...and that is a fact.
5-22-2006 10:35 PM
Merican
By the way, accepting your Stalinist leader's lies that have wrecked our economy, taken us into two wars, decimated our government's ability to act, presided over the worst period of corruption in 400 years or more, and failed to prevent a preventable foreign attack on American soil seems to be anti-Americanism to me. Yo are the noise maker.

I have put up with 30 years of irrational libertarian shit. I have no intention of putting up with anymore. I call it like I see it.

"Our economy has never been better!"

Check this out.
5-22-2006 10:41 PM

Our economy is wrecked. Only the 10% at the top are doing well. The rest are worse off than they were 10 years ago, maybe worse than 20 years ago. Not necessarily individually, but compared to like people from 20 years ago. The deficit is a train wreck written to benefit people who are so weathy they don't care what country they are in. When the US economy crashes for real, do you think they will stick around?
5-22-2006 10:50 PM

As to the 2 wars, no one seems to remember that Bush was so eager, he rejected negotiation with the Taliban when they tried to hand over bin Laden. And, IRAQ NEVER HAD WMD and NEVER BROUGHT ANY WAR TO US. IT WAS A LIE!! And BUSH was so eager, he rejected negotiations with Iraq as well. Zero wars were brought to us.

The rationale for a war in Afganistan would equally justify a war in MICHIGAN against the folks who whipped up Timothy McVhey and against the whole state for allowing the "terrorist training camp." The rationale for the War in Iraq could be used to start a war with Britian or Canada.

Meanwhile, a country that seems to truly harbor baddies, Pakistan, is our close ally! It's all a bunch of shit.

Another annoying comment. I am sure you learned it on Fox news? Must have, I am sure it is your only source. Well known as the Pravda of the US. Stal.. I mean Bush would be proud of you.

Merican, let's take off the gloves for a second... and let me ask you a simple question or two... do you speak or read Russian? If so - have you ever read a single article in Pravda? If so - could you point me to that article and then point to the equivalent FoxNews reporting? You keep bringing Pravda up as if you knew what it's all about.

And as an American, it's hard to believe that you can honestly compare Bush to Stalin. You're dumping on Bush like your life dependent on it... during the Stalin rule, if someone whispered to KGB that you THOUGHT negatively about Stalin - you'd be rotting in jail, regardless of whether it was true or not. So with that - how do you make the comparison between the two?
5-24-2006 4:17 AM
RecordSage
And as for negotiations with Taliban - now YOU're the one with a LIE. They danced back and forth and didn't want to turn him over in the end. They never wanted any negotiation on the subject.

It always cracks me up when people compare Bush to Stalin or Hitler. The very fact that they can criticize him in public (and they waste no opportunity to do so) proves that he is NOT like either Stalin or Hitler--who tolerated no dissent.

If you want to find a modern leader to compare to that dynamic duo, I would suggest looking south toward Venezuela (and let's not forget Fidel either. He's old, but he's still a tyrant).

Global war on terror, translate that

global = worldwide

war = war

war on what= terror
=WWT (World War Terror or Three)

so in theory ladies and gents this unknowingly WW3 is being fought by 1% of our total population according to the spin doctors.

Problem is that 1% is tied back to the rest of the 99% which allot seem to have forgotten.

We are in war and the news is smeared with immigration problems for people who have not sacrificed for this country, think about it. My forefathers are rolling over in their graves.

I think the most illustrative part of Wilhem's speech is
"those in American who still know our place". That is crux of the problem isn't? The "Others" don't know their place, to shut up and listen, to obey without question, to worship without doubt/thought. It is not about the what, where, how, when or even why, its about the who. If "we" do it (whatever it is), its ok, if "they" do it, its is monstrous and most be opposed.

Calling this conflict WW3 is pure propaganda, designed to illicit fear and consternation, images of mushroom clouds and ruined cities dancing in our heads, robbing us of our sleep.

Why the fear mongering?

Why must we cower in abject terror?

Why use terror that pa...

Ratilfar, control very true.

The term ww3 is just that a term, if the president is accepting the term of ww3 that is within his right.

The fallout of that could be impossible to calculate.

You don't think the troops aren't getting much "restful sleep" ?

Fear is just another tool, and if it will motivate individuals within our country (ie 9/11??) to start being more political active then that is positive considering how our current leadership is directing things.

Oh, not with a Geiger counter. I AM starting to consider the thought of a nice little bunker where I can store root vegitables and, in case of emergency - my family.
