inmates are, by law, incapable of consensual sex.

This puts it in the same category as statutory rape, which is still illegal even if it is consensual. If this had been in Idaho instead of New York, she'd be facing a life sentence.

Conjugal visits do not count.

to 3rd degree rape, a class E felony. She's expected to get a sentence of 
probation when she's sentenced in May.<BR><BR>The charge was rape because prison 
inmates are, by law, incapable of consensual sex.<BR><BR>Authorities said 
Vaughn, of Carthage, seduced a male inmate and eventually had sex with at least 
four male inmates between 2006 and her arrest last year.<BR><BR>The ensuing 
investigation also led to the arrests of 32 year old Rachael Paterson of 
Ogdensburg for allegedly having oral sex with inmates; and 38 year old Laura 
Douglass, for alleged sex with an inmate and with passing prison
