Thank you for sharing this with all! You hit the nail on the head. Some are missing the essence of the entire Bible and that essence is the message of LOVE! Christ preached love and despised those that are hypocrites and those who tried to please God by following laws and traditions. Jesus embraced those that were down trodden and outcasts in society. Funny thing is many Christians I know believe abortion and gay marriages are wrong. Those same people work hard to feed the poor, to reach the hurting folks in hurricane ravaged areas, support measure to ensure all folks have equal access to health care..... well you get the point. Those seem to be the the Christians that read ALL of the bible and the teachings of Jesus not just parts of it.

You mean the same ones that support George Bush's policies on war,
taxes, health care, poverty, and the enviroment that contradict
everything Jesus teaches us in the New Testament? Simply put, it is the appearance of moral values that these folks value, not actual moral values.
When you get down to basics there are really only two principals uniting most, if not all major religions: to love God and our neighbor as much as we love ourselves and to work together to repair and improve this world.

Hum - no Debby - nothing to do with politics at all. The ones who read the whole bible - even the parts about NOT sinning against our Lord and Jesus as well as the parts about loving our neighbor and loving God. It's all there, its all important.

Then they need to examine the texts more closely to see what it actually does say about politics of love and justice instead of being overly concerned about an eternally pleasant life after death.
