And let me go one step further with that thought: An atheist or agnostic can reach the same conclusion about what's right or what's wrong and how to fix it. Matter of fact, for them, the road might be easier, because they don't have any difficult doctrinal handicaps to deal with. Martin Luther King's closest friend, Stanley Levison, used to astound King with his level of moral commitment without a faith foundation. He would often tease his friend " You believe in God Stan. You just don't know it."
I like to think that same thing about some of the atheists I know.
But how far relgious conservatives today have strayed from these basic truths. They are the most intolerant, selfish, unforgiving bunch that ever wore the name "American".

And that's the nice stuff. But, nobody has a monopoly on truth. Nobody has a monopoly on religion. And nobody has a monopoly on moral values. To pretend otherwise is not a proof of great faith, it's a sign of great folly.
