ideacreamanuela says: w03 8/15 p. 29 True Worship Unites a Family "...two years after first hearing the truth..."? Is there a religion that doesn't claim "theirs" is the truth? One might wonder, if it's the truth, why does it require faith? "The Bible stresses the importance of evidence when it defines faith. It says: “Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld.” (Hebrews 11:1) True faith in God should be based on evidence that demonstrates the reality of the Creator. The Bible shows where you can find the evidence." *** w08 1/1 p. 17 Is Evolution Compatible With the Bible? *** This takes considerable time and effort. God becomes our friend. A friend is not just an acquaintance. We may have many acquaintances—neighbors, colleagues, and people we meet now and again. True friendship requires an investment of time, energy, and emotional commitment. It is an... Wow. There seems to be a lot added to Hebrews 11:1, nowadays. My bible says: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Heb 11:1 (KJV) True faith in God should be based on evidence that demonstrates the reality of the Creator.Um. We don't actually have any evidence that demonstrates the reality of a Creator. But if we did (have actual evidence that demonstrates... a Creator), we wouldn't need faith. You need faith for things you DON'T have evidence for! (Which is why the king james version makes much more sense.) BTW, to use the bible as evidence for the bible, is what they call circular reasoning. It's false logic, and cannot qualify ... Does the Bible require that we blindly believe in God? Quite the contrary. The Bible shows that it is naive—even foolish—to put faith in claims that are not backed by evidence. “Anyone inexperienced puts faith in every word,” states the Bible, “but the shrewd one considers his steps.”—Proverbs 14:15. *** w08 5/1 p. 3 Seeing Is Believing *** The Bible shows that it is naive—even foolish—to put faith in claims that are not backed by evidence. And I would agree! But again, if the evidence is factual, why would faith be necessary? --- I'm just curious, really, why all denominations of all religions call theirs "truth" when they all disagree! What is it that makes religions do that? Isn't the word "truth" being erroneously used to describe "belief"? Jesus Christ pointed out to the Sadducees, a sect that did not believe in resurrection, that the writings of Moses in the Hebrew Scriptures, which they possessed and claimed to believe, prove there is a resurrection; Jesus reasoned that when Jehovah said He was “the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob” (who were actually dead), He counted those men as alive because of the resurrection that He, “the God, not of the dead, but of the living,” purposed to give them. God, because of his power, “makes the dead alive and calls the things that are not as though they were.” Paul includes this fact when speaking of Abraham’s faith.—Mt 22:23, 31-33; Ro 4:17.*** it-2 p. 784 Resurrection *** Christian Faith. To be acceptable to God, it is now necessary for one to exercise faith in Jesus Christ, and this makes possible a righteous standing with God. (Ga 2:16) Those lacking such faith are rejected by Jehovah.—Joh 3:36; compare Heb 11:6. Faith is not the possession of all persons, as it is a fruit of God’s spirit. (2Th 3:2; Ga 5:22) And a Christian’s faith is not static, but it grows. (2Th 1:3) Hence, the request of Jesus’ disciples, “Give us more faith,” was very appropriate, and he did provide them the foundation for increased faith. He supplied them with greater evidence and understanding on which to base their faith.—Lu 17:5. The entire life course of a Christian is actually ... Sure. I'm just curious, really, why all denominations of all religions call theirs "truth" when they all disagree! What is it that makes religions do that? Isn't the word "truth" being erroneously used to describe "belief"? Well, what do you think "faith" is, and what "belief"? "..the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Belief without evidence. That's religious faith. And my question is, why do they call it truth? Does a blind man really see his face in a mirror? Really they see and hear something that is not there, think something that is not true. That is why they call it truth. They are blind. (2 Corinthians 4:4) (2 Corinthians 4:4) . . .among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through. Jesus Christ informed his hearers: “I am the light of the world. He that follows me will by no means walk in darkness, but will possess the light of life.” (John 8:12) He also said: “If you remain in my word, you are really my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31, 32) Yes, Jesus had “sayings of everlasting life.” (John 6:68, 69) Light, life, freedom—surely these are blessings to be treasured! *** w02 1/1 p. 13 par. 2 The Blessings of the Good News *** That is why they call it truth. They are blind.Ok. That makes perfectly good sense. Thank you. |
