invictus says: For text adventure fans and nostalgics... This brings back memories Fantastic find invictus! Exactly a time machine - reminded me those beautiful nights I spent with my Commodore 64 Commodore? whew! We had one of those but I played Zork on an Apple IIe. ;o) In fact I didn't play Zork on Commodore 64 either but I played several similar text adventures and RPG's. This Zork version reminded me those days and nights, spent in front of a black screen and typing commands like "open the bag", "examine the dagger", "go nortwest" etc. LOL I can relate to that! Drawing out a map to help remember where we went, what we did that worked and didn't work. Part II of the program - never got more than 1/2 way through that and don't recall what happened. Program glitched or we just got stuck. I don't remember. But do remember spending entire weekends vegging on Zork. I purchased Myst a few years back thinking it was like Zork but guess my brain couldn't digest this one. I found it frustrating and never spent the same amount of time on it. I agree, Myst was very impressive with its atmosphere but some of the the puzzles were too hard to solve so I surrendered and gave up at the early stages of the game. Its sequel "Riven" however, was excellent and kept me busy for weeks with its fantastic 3D graphics, effects and powerful story, as well as its hard but good designed puzzles. |
