Hey, I have been using Ubuntu since 2007. A few teething problems as I was new to it but since then it has become the only operating system I use. At the time I was frustrated by Windows and considering moving to Apple but instead gave this a try after seeing a feature on BBC news. The latest version (8.10 Intrepid Ibex) is virtually all 'point & click', no linux commands required...until you decide you really want to make it your own.

Brilliant, highly recommended. Just give it a try, keep an open mind and the online community is great (http://ubuntuforums.org/). Hope that helps.

I use Ubuntu as my daily desktop and do not complain. It has much advantages and some disadvantages.

If you do try it, i'd advise you to set it up as your daily desktop and give it a serious try: set up your emailaccount and install all (similar) software you use in windows. Install WINE (a piece of software that will let you run windows applications).
If something doesn't work out, or you can't find immediately how to do something in ubuntu, don't refrain from asking help at ubuntuforums.org.

Give yourself a little time to get used to it. And maybe start following some blogs on ubuntu, that'll help too.

It is the best distribution for newcomers to linux.
