Having done it for 20 years I know that teaching children with special needs is probably one of the most satisfying jobs there is. I was grateful nearly every day for having such a privileged opportunity.

Great kid. Great teacher (by the sound of it). Enthusiastic in her praise, anyway.

We used to try to avoid the "good boy/girl, good job" habit. Where praise is so constant, repetitive and routinely given that it is hardly heard by the kids. We used a completely non-aversive (no negatives) technique, with praise given frequently but always meaningfully and enthusiastically.

@John - I hear you. Honest praise is perfect. Praise that is not genuine creates a low level of expectation in the child and is bad for her once she gets out in the world. She will expect praise at every turn while doing nothing for it. I can imagine this would wreak havoc on her mind, self-esteem. But, I too, see people doing it often and for me, yes; the credibility of the adult is shot. LoL
