I'm glad the U.S. is planting 90.5 million acres of corn this year! so are many farmers across America, which have been struggling to make ends meets. I just hope not too many farms have been already lost. Corn stoves are also getting popular, which can burn feed corn instead of wood, coal or pellets. Good stuff. It is obvious that the use of corn for biofuel is driving up corn's price. Can its benefit exceed its cost? @trangndt- Let's examine the facts: Oil is a non-renewable resource. The U.S. (and many others) rely too heavily on foreign imports of oil. This is a national security weakness. Don't think so? That's why the goverment created the Strategic Oil reserve. The U.S. is planting 90.5 million acres of corn this year...the most since 1944. There are MANY farmers who have been paid to NOT grow any crops (a subsidy) and THAT is a huge waste of money. I would rather see farmers actually farming, then sitting back collecting a check for nothing. Corn is not just used for bio-fuels, It is also being used for environmentally safe plastics PLA (as I mentioned). These do NOT pollute our soils... |
