i agree with with The Bishop...i hate Halloween. just don't get the concept at all. the fact that, like dfiskey mentioned, popular costumes includes bush, bin laden, cheney, etc. demonstrates how stupid this day is.

when i was 13 years old the girls used the day as an excuse to dress all sluty...have to admit, i liked that

My only support for Halloween is the candy. Over-rated and nothing to do with Hallow's Eve and yada yada yada...it's all about the candy....

RECLAIM the christian aspects of halloween??? Doesn't anyone know the real roots of the tradition that was entirely pagan?

It's one of those things that the Church co-opted and made a holyday to subvert the native religions they were trying to replace. Christmas is the same way - the nativity was probably sometime in mid to late spring, not in December; it was set at 25 December to displace Saturnalia.

Either way, the commercial aspects of Hallowe'en, like those of Christmas, have gone a long way towards secularizing the day. It's all candy and costumes and drinking to excess.

One for the geeks: How do we know that Hallowe'en and Christmas are the same? because 31 OCT = 25 DEC.
