The measures are "too weak". Yes! The Liberals and the anti-war advocates *know* that withdrawing our military and undermining the efforts in Iraq will spell d-i-a-s-t-e-r for all involved. Commit wholeheartedly, win and then come home.

Jatfla,
what does "win" in Iraq mean?

Get rid of Al-Qaeda, thwart Iran's attempts to *take* Iraq, get the oil issues settled so the economy can prosper, set a perimeter of protection for the elected Iraqi government, give the ordinary Iraqis the hope and means of protecting their communities, get Iraq involved in the world economy. Just a couple of ideas of what "win" would look like to me. Big order, I know; but considering the hell the Middle East would become if the US withdraws, it's worth the efforts. Petraeus has asked for "time". I hope he will be given his chance that he was promised.

The REAL Napster
To me, a 'win' in Iraq would be for the Iraqi people to say enough is enough. Our country has been ruled by wars and killing each other for hundreds of years now. We need to settle our differences with each other to rebuild our country and get on with life. Step up to the plate and swing for crying out loud. You may strike out but at least you will have tried.

I don't think you're reading that correctly. Reid wasn't saying that the proposals were "weak" in the sense that they'd somehow "weaken" our chances of "winning" in Iraq, but that that they didn't go far enough to force Bush to re-evaluate the war as a while and start bringing our troops home.

Sadly, this whole war was ill-conceived from the start, it was sold to the American public through lies and manipulation of evidence and it had NOTHING to do with 9/11, other than 9/11 giving the neo-cons a convenient excuse to attack Iraq. It's been well documented that as early as Bush's first month in office, the neo-cons in the administration were trying to find a way to invade Iraq. A document...

Disagree with you thorswitch; but fortunately in America we can still do this and not kill each other. :~)
