enbar says:
Nick Cave describes his fascination with and attraction to Mark in very sophisticated terms, identifying as key elements of Marcan theology a kind of pressured narrative urgency, a constant undercurrent of conflict, the isolation and anger that seem to characterize Jesus' own inner life, hopeless incomprehension on the part of his own family and followers, a looming, desperate awareness of the cross, and the restless activity of Jesus' "jewel-like imagination." Seen at Christopher Cocca's blog (bit.ly/11zhE6).

Oh bummer, I was hoping this clip would convince us that Stalin, Hitler, and Mao were in fact Christians and not atheists; and that the murders they committed were done in the name of Christianity instead of a failed attempt to create a religion-free utopia.

Again with the idiocy that Hitler was an atheist or that their murders were motivated by religion or lack there off.

Enbar thanks for the clip, it illuminates especially those who have space for such things.

I hesitate to write this but Jesus was never out of control.

The article said:

"Christ is in deep conflict with the world He is trying to save, and the sense of aloneness that surrounds Him is at times unbearably intense"

Does this verse sound like He is deep conflict trying to save the world?

Mar 4:11 And He said to them, "To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables,
Mar 4:12 so that 'SEEING THEY MAY SEE AND NOT PERCEIVE, AND HEARING THEY MAY HEAR AND NOT UNDERSTAND; LEST THEY SHOULD TURN, AND THEIR SINS BE FORGIVEN THEM.' "

the short excerpt in the clip doesn't really do justice to the essay, which is a lot richer. with respect to jay8h, i don't see where cave suggests that jesus is out of control. he says there's conflict betwen jesus and the world -- with the jewish and roman authorities, with his own family, and even with his disciples. that seems like a fairly uncontroversial interpretation to me.

He had a bit of a conflict with the Philistine literalists, moral bigots and the moneylending industry. For starters.
