Two regions in the world where language extinction is most prevalent are Papua-New Guinea and the Americas. So many American Indian languages have already been lost and a great number more down to double or even single digits in numbers of speakers. Each language has something important to say about how people think and interact that an effort shuld be made to record as many of them as possible. Up to 2,000 languages may disappear entirely in the next hundred years.
