Wow! They must feel so hip and cool. After all, the cultural models they hold in awe say "McSame" on those totally awesome websites. Only shows the far-left has migated to Alaska too! My parents don't like McCain/Palin, either, and they're not only not "the far left", they're lifelong Republicans. It's not a black and white world, dl211. Guess what - I don't like McCain, I do like Palin, however Obama is the worst person I can think of to be our president, so I'm forced to go along with McCain. Life long Republicans voting for Obama - that's a big stretch of the imagination. It's pretty amazing, I admit. My mom was the first to come over - I was pretty shocked when she told me she voted in the Democratic primary for Obam Now, if someone like Mike Huckabee (who Dad voted for in the primary) was the candidate, they'd never vote for Obama. They're born-agains, see, and were never impressed with McCain ("not one of us"). So they were open to something different. They both also believe in universal health care. And they're ready for change, too. They also have me, a decidedly liberal community organizer as a daughter, and they listen to me. Who knew? It's pretty exciting for me. Even my 40-year old brother, who has never been much interested in politics, ... A lot of old school Republicans are also not very thrilled with the turn their party has taken - tacking far right on social issues and abandoning fiscal conservatism. Surely you know that Susan Eisenhower spoke at the Democratic Convention, for example? My mother voted twice for Bush Jr., voted for Dole, Bush Sr., and twice for Reagan. She is voting Obama this time. i believe my mother, were she alive, would also vote for obama this time, lifelong republican that she was. Some people simply can't believe that Republican voters can, at times, vote with something other than lizard brains. Just because they are Republicans doesn't mean that their Republicans first and Americans second. |
