Look into Reelfoot Lake on the Tennessee-Missouri border. It was also created by an earthquake. It is a very beautiful lake where bald eagles winter. I believe it is suggested that it was the strongest earthquake to hit North America in the past several hundred years. It caused the Mississippi River to run backward. It was probably strongest (M approx. 8) in North America if not to consider The Great Alaskan Quake (M9.2) which was the third largest recorded in the world. |
