The word <I>sentient</I> is often confused with the word <I><A title="Sapience" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapience">sapient</A></I>, which can connote <A title="Knowledge" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge">knowledge</A>, consciousness, or <A title="Apperception" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apperception">apperception</A>. The root of the confusion is that the word <I>conscious</I> has a number of different usages in <A title="English%20%28language%29" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_%28language%29">English</A>.
