That is, in his view, the ethic of Jesus isn’t simply an alternative “non-violent” means of wielding power or accomplishing social change (as Gandhi’s ethic might be viewed); it’s the renunciation of power altogether. On the other hand, I think some contemporary Christian pacifists have a more pragmatic view of Jesus’ ethic of non-violence as a strategy for social change (Wink comes to mind).
