Aribeth says: Rose Apple, also known as Champoo is one of the most interesting exotic fruits on the planet, just for the fact that it smells and tastes a lot like roses. Unfortunately they are rarely found in markets around the world because they spoil very quickly after being picked. The bell-shaped fruits are crisp, crunchy and have a delicious fresh flavor. It can be eaten whole but as with apples, many people prefer to leave the core. Rose Apples are also boiled in hot water to make scented Rose Water. Nice clip! Interesting to see some of the fruits so common in India are exotic elsewhere, and hve different names! Sugar-apples are called Custard Apples here and are quite common! As are the Rose Apples - which we call White Jamuns (pronounced Ja-moons). The langsat too looks like something else which is grown in some parts of India. Very watery & sweet to taste. The local word for it (not in English) is 'targola / tadgola'. Interesting to see some of the fruits so common in India are exotic elsewhereI am so jealous I love tamarind but my sweetie calls it "evil in a pod". (As opposed to pickles, which are "cucumbers soaked in evil". He's not fond of sour flavors...) I'd like to try some of those fruits too. |
