PHP tool company Zend Technologies on Monday named former BMC Software executive Harold Goldberg as CEO.
</P><P>
Goldberg, who was senior vice president of worldwide marketing, replaces Doron Gerstel <A title="Zend%20gains%20cash%20sans%20CEO%20--%20Monday%2C%20Aug%2028%2C%202006" href="http://news.com.com/2061-10795_3-6110509.html">who left the company in April</A> of last year.

In a statement, Goldberg said that the venture-backed company is on a "sharp growth trajectory being fueled by both the acceptance of open source, and the trend toward new, service oriented programming models."

PHP is a widely used scripting language to build Web sites and Web-based business applications.
