Why would she be grateful to the staffers who treated her like crap and gave her advice that actually harmed her in the long run?

Truly so. She was a know nothing that was completely ill prepared for the role thrust upon her. Hidden in the frigid North she was able to scrape by with her insanity, but brought out into the light of day its completely ruined her chance to bilk the system for what she could. I can completely understand why she's upset.
