LINC is daarmee de meest recente uiting van een lange criminologische traditie aan de K.U.Leuven die werd ingezet met de oprichting van de "School voor Criminologie" in 1929. LINC wil de Leuvense traditie van degelijk wetenschappelijke onderzoek in combinatie met een stevige maatschappelijke betrokkenheid verder zetten.
