Methinks that if indeed there is a God then sufficiency would be a blessing from her/.him. Prosperity would be a curse from God as it most surely is for the planet and future generations of all sentient beings Add Oral Roberts, Reverend Ike and a host of other prayer cloth selling snake oil salesmen to the list ... I know some people of the Southern Baptist faith who firmly believe this and brainwashed their daughter from the time she was a toddler to believe it also. I attended the daughter's 15th birthday party and could hardly believe my ears and eyes at what transpired when she received a hundred dollar bill from her parents. She gave a cry of joy, then immediately handed it to her beaming father and asked him to take $10 to give to their church and give her back the rest, because "then God will send me even more money". Everyone present, save for yours truly, thought this was just wonderful. Sheesh. The one thing it seems that these people with their money cannot buy, not even from God, is a little COMMON SENSE.... How many of the poor could you feed and cloth for the cost of a Rolls-Royce? How many of the elderly could you help with heating cost? Sick, sick, sick. There are other things in life to be prosperous in that just wealth... I know many poor families that are prosperous in love, happiness and good fortune. Money isn't everything. "Woe to you who are rich!" - Jesus OMG, Did Jesus tell you that? People who are Rich have a prosperous imagination, but money plays finders keepers. You can eat Gold, but it doesn't have many vitamins. I think Cash is Toxic. Account balances , Stocks, shares, and prestige, are fundamentally fictional. It can often seem the wealthy feel so prosperous, they need to wear their wealth as a suit of Armour, to protect them from reality. National security is an example to a point. Too often all that is considered to be personal strength is instilled in the wealth. Without it the wealthy are as substantial as a snail without a shell. Of course that could always be called sour grapes, but Vinegar can make an excellent French Dressing. (Italian with a few herbs) Ah pokkets, you have outdone yourself in the realm of elegant prose. I must agree with Christopher Hitchen's - "God is not great. Religion Poisons Everything." |
