This one can be explained. They have a progressive government and a high quality of life. They are also a largely "equal" society. They have had an "out" lesbian, working class leader. I have picked Finland as my country of refuge if the US completely goes south. They all speak English already. My great grandparents came from Finland in 1905. I wish they could have lived to see how wonderful it became.

Agreed with dmegivern. That was my first reaction as well: a high quality of life in an egalitarian society.

I read once that Finland is the only country where gender in government mirrors gender in society: 51% of government positions are filled by women.
