While it's vaguely related, I saw a story today that you may have seen, and it made me sick. President Bush cried when he said he regretted the fact that in 1944, the Untied States didn't bomb Auschwitz. When they knew what was happening to concentration camp inmates. Bombing the railways may have cut off the supply of prisoners at the same time it cut the supply lines of essentials like food.
Amazing the way explosives seem to be the answer to every problem. Well it can destroy a lot of incriminating evidence. They were only going to bomb the railways and supply lines. The extraordinary high losses suffered on Omaha Beach wer primary due to the huge huge armada of bomber failing totally to hit their target. It reminded me so much of the Somme in the blind faith in bombing. If they had even hit the beaches, many lives would have been saved as the troops could have used the craters as foxholes.
