dorine says: My cat goes crazy whenever I'm eating blackberry yogurt. I gave her a taste one time. (She got a kidney infection a week later...don't know if related). I think she CAN taste sweets. My cats love cantaloupe. Maybe the texture is meaty to them? Otherwise that's sweet. My cat also loves yogurt, but he is pretty discriminating--he likes strawberry & raspberry yogurt, but hates lemon yogurt. I have been doing feral cat rescue for 13yrs. now and almost 100% like some sweet thing. Yes, lots of cantalope, chocolate(only one small bite, or else) peanuts, pistascios, etc, etc, etc. Out of 13 cats, one of mine (red tabby) loves cantelope; nothing similar nor any other fruit or sweet... just cantelope. Another cat does love a variety of sweets, including ice cream, cakes and grated cheese. I don't indulge them, as I believe these aren't good for them, and I provide plenty of premium Nat Balance wet food. I've yet to hear a confident explanation for the sweets craving. Wonder if there's something else in sweets that cats like. My cat begs for the mild at the bottom of my cereal bowl. It has a little sugar in it. She won't drink milk otherwise. Strange animal....and we let them take over our homes.. Mine prefers chlorinated swimming pool water to fresh water. Have to hide the chlorine away because he won't leave the container alone. |
