Elle ne reposerait plus seulement sur le désir mimétique, la comparaison et la compétition avec autrui. La nouvelle consommation serait ainsi davantage un miroir reflétant l'identité profonde des individus qu'une vitrine exposant leur statut social, leurs différents rôles et avatars.
