kmcolo says: It is good to remember that when millions of Americans are losing their jobs, losing their homes and losing their hope, there is no better thing to do that to put yourself first. The only thing funnier than a masterful Colbert caricature is an "intellectual" leftist parading the satire based on soft bigotry and stereotypes as absolute fact. It was funny though. If you speak of my comment - that is how Colbert basically ends his piece - but it was not a direct quote hence no quotation marks. It is humorous social commentary as evidenced by the tag I used. Regards. This problem will be solved once and for all when the money-grubber serfs are replaced by robots..... ............ who shop for goods and consume services. Hilarious, thanks kmcolo. If you speak of my comment - that is how Colbert basically ends hisI wasn't at all speaking about you particularly. I notice a general trend in the media and public that use these sorts of entertainment pieces and hold onto them as if news or opinion. I cannot remember who it was, but someone recently wrote a book and in it discussed the culture gravitation away from hard news toward the types of source like Colbert, Satuday Night Live, and -whats his face on Comedy Central-, I'm drawing a blank. I generally agree. I wish people would get their news from real sources rather than humor shows. Of course some of the humor is based on being somewhat well versed in the news. Some have said that they've turned to shows like John Stewart's (that's the name you were looking for, right?) because that is where they hear the truth. Some have said that they've turned to shows like John Stewart's (that'sExactly. I think that if most of the mainstream news reporting didn't suck, people would choose it over comedic news. But most news programs are either totally flat, with little perspective or granularity - or they are too biased in their views to be taken seriously. Have we already forgotten the study that showed Daily Show viewers knowledge of current affairs was 19 percentage points higher than viewers of FAUX Noise. I don't see hard news anymore. It's all corporate shill news that's quaking at telling the truth least their corporate owners GE, Disney, Rupert Murdoch, disagree. Just last night Lou Dobbs was lamenting the fact that news had to rely on comedy shows to take people to task. I f anyone wants a refresher on Public Knowledge of Current Affairs and overall Political Knowledge here is the link the the Pew Research Survey. Summary of Findings: Public Knowledge of Current Affairs That's what I get for using IE. Will try this again. http://people-press.org/report/319/public-knowledge-of-current-affairs-little-changed-by-news-and-information-revolutions Link BobbyRutan - yes, quite revealing information in that link. Quite. Again Fox views score near the bottom. What surprised me was that Daily Show viewer were at the top. Obviously a liberal conspiracy. |
