AtlLiberal says: Gullibility runs rampant as indicated by this organization which has the chutzpah to claim some sort of affiliation with a reputable organization. Snake oil is still in demand! Actually, homeopathy works in a lot of cases. Vaccination programs are direct descendants of homeopathy, the philosophy of "like cures like" (hence the 'homeo'). Allopathy, the current western medical trend, and its proponents, the AMA and Big Pharma have spent lots (I mean LOTS) of time and money to discredit any competitors. Personally, I've found Allopathy to work well when used in tandem with alternative medical tools. I've gotten some wonderful results for myself and my family. As in anything else, one must always use common sense, as well as personal observation. BTW, It's VERY popular in Germany. Perhaps homeopathy is good for some, but in third world countries or others that need medical treatment desperately? They have no place there. What are they going to do to help a blind person that has shrapnel in his eyes? Give him some herbal tea or a candle, if he's lucky! Come on. placebo effecrt Actually, homeopathy works in a lot of cases.Actually, sugar pills work in a lot of cases. I assume you're familiar with the placebo effect. Homeopathy, for all practical purposes, is putting water under your tongue and depending on the "memory" of the molecules in the water to cure you. I could hardly type that last bit without laughing. the AMA and Big Pharma have spent lots (I mean LOTS) of time and money to discredit any competitors. While I'm not a fan of "Big Pharma" and question the AMA's ties to the insurance racket, the fact remains that the "science" of homeopathy is about as reliable as phrenology and astrology. To place the bulk of confidence in the body healing itself is a sure route to degradation of health and the eventual and in some cases preventable death of the individual. Agreed, with limitations. My main point was that a lot of claims are made for placebo 'cures' that ignore the spontaneous recovery of the body. My main point was that a lot of claims are made for placebo 'cures' that ignore the spontaneous recovery of the body.True. How does that change what I've already said? I had an aunt who was a hypochondriac. When she traveled, she had a whole little suitcase full of pills and creams and other stuff. I found out later that only two or three pills were both necessary and real - the rest were vitamins, placebos and sugar pills. They didn`t do her any harm, and made her feel like she was taking care of herself. This is the kind of person homeopathy can benefit, but it doesn`t take the place of a scientific medical establishment. I`ve known people who feel benefits from reiki, which does nothing for me. On the other hand, I have received reflexology treatments, which make ME feel better, at least for a while, even if it`s not recognized as a valid medical ... |
