Americans associate nudity with sexuality. If an American is gonna get naked, you damn will better have something good to show! So I think we tend to be self conscious about our bodies (especially women). I think it's far more healthy not to associate nudity with sexuality, as most Europeans do.

Yea, grew up with all that shame, surrounds me, now just what am I going to do about it. If I see a picture of a naked lady I'm bound, suppressed as I am, to get a hard on. I do agree though that all this shame has screwed us up. Just messes with my head all of it. Interestingly enough, if I go to a nude beach, I will not get sexually aroused when actually confronting it as such, so.... there I go, nice reality check.

So very true and with much much wider ramifications for a lifetime and not just afternoons on a nude beach.

One thing I've found is that when one is in a clothing-optional or social nudity situation where it's just a bunch of average people, it's always possible to assuage any self consciousness because you can always find someone else about whom you can think (to yourself, of course), "Well, at least I look better than that]".

I regret that I've never had the opportunity to test your words of wisdom personally. Yes, I often thought of how I would react, or not as the case might be!

The best I've done is not being careful while undressing as regards extra eyes, but it was always good mental preparation. Nude in bed is my best claim to fame, but claim to have no hangups about been seen.

My first time at the nude beach was in fact a revelation. I felt more connected and part of the earthly world, and at the same time far less brain centered, than ever before. Nothing can describe the first moments of warmth reflected to one's "taint" as a grounding experience. I believe that EVERYONE should spend a day naked on the beach and in the meadow. The world would be a far better place for it.
