I'm skeptical of this prospect, too. Long may our land be bright, Well...you know, everythings a struggle. The USA has a law of separation of church and state -- it's not like it's something new -- and it's not like it's unusual; in fact, it is what most Americans believe. This 'enlightenment' came from the English Enlightenment of the 1750's, and other such ideas. But as history ceaselessly shows, someone comes along who wants to push their own agenda and political and'/or religious beliefs...and they do things, so the struggle begins again and again. But the law remains on the side of enlightenment, since 1776 and thus people can take their complains to court.
