BartendingBear says: Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd think fans would find this bad form. I wouldn't want to see the Indy trophy in Roger Penske's pool. agree Lol. This is a tradition, the cup was in Lemieux's pool the last time the Penguins won it also, there is no disrespect toward the cup and what it stands for to them intended. There is a lot of history about that cup, it's been stolen and ransomed, sent down rivers, left in snow banks, and even one rumor has it that Detroit team members once peed in it (hopefully that is just a rumor!) There are even books about it's adventures, like "If the Cup Could Talk". And yes, I am an avid hockey fan... NPR once did an interview with the guy whose job it is to escort the Stanley cup as it makes the rounds because apparently each member of that year's winning team gets to take possession of the cup for 24 hours. He's escorted it to strip clubs and other places. These are, after all, professional hockey players. Maybe the tennis players don't get crazy with their trophies. You don't want to know the kinds of things the Stanley Cup has been exposed to in its history. Hint for people winning it for the first time; sterilize and sanitize it first. Let's just say that sexual fluids are one of the more mild substances it's had on it. |
