MayTheClipBeWithYou says: Add this to recent reports of child slavery in cocoa production, and it looks like a real dilemma for chocaholics Actually this isn't a problem for vegetarians at all. Vegetarians avoid meat in general, not animal bi-products such as milk, eggs, cheese and in this case rennet. Vegans avoid all animal bi-products but even that is often customized to the individual as to how far they are willing to go in leaving these products out of thier diet. Sadly, in either case, the majority of people will continue to support these manufacturers. Of course technically you're right, Saranneth, and as you suggest, it can be a struggle for some to apply principle in preference to a sweet tooth. Considering recent reports on issues such as exploitation of child cocoa workers however (see: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/6517695.stm), I think that keeping chocolate in the news is no bad thing. |
