righthand says: "The documents also suggest that the US government, anxious to spare Israel's reputation and preserve its alliance with the US., closed the case with what even some of its participants now say was a hasty and seriously flawed investigation. "In declassifying the most recent and largest batch of materials last June 8, the 40th anniversary of the attack, the NSA, this country's chief US electronic-intelligence-gatherer and code-breaker, acknowledged that the attack had "become the center of considerable controversy and debate." It was not the agency's intention, it said, "to prove or disprove any one set of conclusions, many of which can be drawn from a thorough review of this material," available athttp://www.nsa.gov/liberty . "An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman called the attack a tragic and terrible accident, a case of mistaken identity, for which Israel has officially apologized." Israel also paid reparations of $6.7 million to the injured survivors and the families of those “'Sir, Sergeant Bryce Lockwood, United States Marine Corps, retired. I am a member of the USS Liberty crew, Sir.' "Lockwood told of the events of that fateful day, beginning with the six-hour naval and air surveillance of the Liberty by the Israeli navy and air force on the morning of June 8. "After the air attacks including thousand-pound bombs and napalm, three sixty-ton torpedo boats lined up like a firing squad, pointing their torpedo tubes at the Liberty’s starboard hull. "Lockwood had been ordered to throw the extremely sensitive cryptological equipment overboard and had just walked beyond the bulwark separating the NSA intelligence unit from the rest of the ship when, he recalled, ... "According to this senior Israeli lead pilot, he recognized the Liberty as American immediately, so informed his headquarters, and was told to ignore the American flag and continue his attack. He refused to do so and returned to base, where he was arrested." "Later, a dual-citizen Israeli major told survivors that he was in an Israeli war room where he heard that pilot's radio report. The attacking pilots and everyone in the Israeli war room knew that they were attacking an American ship, the major said. He recanted the statement only after he received threatening phone calls from Israel." "The pilot's protests also were heard by radio monitors in the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon. Then-U.S.... And authorities dare to criticise the conspiracy theorists after 9/11 and the evidence that the US could have ignored the knowledge that Pearl Harbour was about to be attacked. Israel also paid reparations of $6.7 million to the injured survivors and the families of thoseand this was exactly the amount of the increase for the Israeli fund the following year. This logic can explain why ALL American politicians with any serious aspiration for high office must first kiss the Zionist ass. The amount involved is so huge that getting elected in democratic America is impossible without funds from at least one on the big 3 lobbys. Elected, it is in the politicians interest to give more and more funds to Israel so he/she will get more and more in return. Robbing Peter to pay Paul is an expression we have here to explain this deception,... "I can tell you for an absolute certainty (from intercepted communications) that the Israelis knew they were attacking an American ship." -- NSA Deputy Director Oliver Kirby "...the board of inquiry (concluded) that the Israelis knew exactly what they were doing in attacking the Liberty." -- CIA Director Richard Helms "The evidence was clear. Both Admiral Kidd and I believed with certainty that this attack...was a deliberate effort to sink an American ship and murder its entire crew.... It was our shared belief. . .that the attack. . .could not possibly have been an accident.... I am certain that the Israeli pilots [and] their superiors. . .were well aware that the ship was American." -- Captain Ward Boston, JAGC, US Navy (retired), senior legal counsel to the US Navy Court of Inquiry I believe that absolutely but supposing for a moment that they thought they were attacking an Egyptian tramp. Why go to such extraordinary lengths to sink a supposed no consequence Egyptian non-navel ship? But most importantly, why shoot up the life rafts? The Nazis at there worst never attempted to prevent the shipwrecked having some chance of being rescued. For any normal engagement, the sinking of the ship would be enough. Leaving no survivors is a heinous crime and must have had an important purpose. The survivors knew that if the ship went down they were meant to die too. The miracle was that despite all the damage, that the ship stayed afloat. Now is it not absolutely RACIST to say ... Intelligence analysts agree that they attacked because they feared we might learn something that they did not want the United States to know. That could have been 1. The planned invasion of the Golan Heights which was set to start a few hours after Liberty's arrival in the area. When Liberty arrived, the invasion was postponed for 24 hours, Liberty was attacked, and the invasion took place the next day. Did they postpone the invasion until Liberty out of the way and unable to report on the war? 2. It is possible that they were afraid that Liberty might learn and report to the United States that Israeli forces were executing up to 1,000 Egyptian Prisoners of War at El Arish at the v... This attack was planned, agreed?. These other events you mentioned were probably not, so how do they connect. Why would the Israeli be concerned anyway? They were able to block out signal seeking help by the Liberty, so why not signals being received by it if they were concerned about the Liberty picking up signals. I don't know the answer but sinking the Liberty out of sight doesn't seem to measure up in scale. LBJ and McNamara were in contact at first hand that day. That would be very unusual particularly then and LBJ ordered the attack on Cairo. You offered no explanation for why the Liberty was there without cover. Have you considered the impossible - a provocation of the USSR after... You offered no explanation for why the Liberty was there without cover.I agree. Sounds like our government was doing something devious, or else they would not have been so quick to cover the whole thing up, methinks. I'm sure there are situations where our government would attack an allied target if we suspected that target to be carrying out certain operations. So what's the big deal? Would it have been worth a war with Israel to pursue the issue? A war we would certainly lose? The Liberty was monitoring the fighting between Israel and Egypt. At the time the U.S. was not a chummy with the Israelis as it is today, in fact it was the French who served as the main arms dealer to the IAF. So the Israelis probably assumed that information from the Liberty could make its way to Cairo, in a clear attempt to "balance" the region. This is of course no excuse to attack a ship in international waters. Then again Israel considers all its "alliances" to be one way, their way. Good reasoning. LBJ did say something that day to the effect of not embarrassing an ally, which, given by then he knew who was attempting to sink the Liberty, does not make a lot of sense except he would let them away with murder, of his men. With all the hits it took, the Liberty should have gone down with all hands, well what then. What was meant to have played out if it did? The US to attack who? Start WW3? Whatever information the Liberty was capable of obtaining, sinking her with all hands does seem to me to be way off to the extreme, even for Israel. I've had more than 7 Israeli in my home recently. They varied from one who spent one year plus in Prison 4 as a conscientious object... The following is from http://english.pravda.ru/main/2002/09/14/36639_.html

Pravda? LOL! Truth? The USS Liberty was there monitoring the Israeli-Egypt 1967 war. Although it's hard to keep track of all these Israeli and Middle East wars, the '67 war has become a reference for many proposed (and ignored) treaties, i.e. Israel going back to the pre-67 borders. I've read several suggestions that it was the Israeli massacre of Egyptian prisoners that was a prime reasons the spy ship Liberty was attacked, to prevent news of this massacre of POW's from coming out. Was there such a massacre? It seems so. The only question is how many killed. |
