I'm an atheist who can't stand the pompous Richard Dawkins! I love Xmas - but not for the religious or commercial aspect..merely for the decorations, songs and presents..more especially for children.

Xmas needs a makeover..it's a lonely time of the year for many and for most of us Xmas is simply an excuse for indulgence and selfishness. Now where that present I brought myself

Atheists 'know' that life is meaningless and that we are all really automatons but they find that it is impossible to live atheism with absolute integrity so they take the least uncomfortable route and behave as though we do have souls and free will.

Does one have to believe in Mickey Mouse, to enjoy Disneyland?

Does one have to believe in ghosts and goblins to enjoy Halloween?

Does one have to believe all movies are documentaries, to enjoy going to the theatre?

No. Neither does one have to believe in a God or Santa, to enjoy Christmas.

I've never heard an atheist say that, only theist say that "about" atheists. And though I know of no gods, I certainly don't think that life is meaningless.

So where does this "meaningless" idea come from? And why would a person who DOES believe in a god automatically have "meaning" in their life?

In fact, there is a greater meaning in my life BECAUSE I don't pretend to be immortal. Every day matters. But for a person who believes he has an infinite tomorrows... who cares how they waste today?

PS: I also love Christmas. It's a traditional holiday to give gifts and express our humanity towards each other. Such jazz ab...
