If you start counting from the arrival of the Belgians till now, I believe that the casualties are several times 5 million.

I have known and worked with people from Sudan, thank God they were able to leave and come to the US (legally, I might add). The horrors in this area of our world are so unimaginable! Thank you for sharing this, any person with an ounce of humanity should be appalled!

Sure the commercial media have got their head in a bucket of manure because they are used to the smell. That's where people need to spread the news. We need to go from having the news presented to us, to finding the news ourselves, confirming our own sources, and tracing the sources quoted by the mainstream journalists. What they describe as news today isn't meat, it's soda water, with a touch of vinegar.
People are getting more interested in the real news. When they discover some of the critical issues ignored by the mainstream through a wider range of sources, the existence of the political agenda of the media will become clearer. Ignorance is criminal. Why try and fix something that 'Is...

skwirlinator,

prayer is the problem... people pray for them so that they can feel like they have done something, and then continue on doing nothing.

Arab Muslims killing Black Muslims. Yet no outrage among the Muslims of the world !! Shows the hypocrisy of Islam and it's true nature . A religion of the Arabs , for the Arabs and to subjugate non-Arab people ! The Chinese and the Arabs have no respect for others than those of their race . They are the New Nazis and the New Evil Empire , the Tibetans have been crushed similarly ,yet western tourists blithely visit Chinese occupied Tibet !

If you want to know Why nothing was done about Dafur - look to the Islamic block in the UN. The US has been trying for years to stop the massacre. Dig, dig dig deep! I promise you - you Will find out how the UN - the Islamists - have intentionally made it impossible to fight the genocide going on there - perpetuated by other Islamists... however, I agree with you. I think it shouldn't matter what Islamists at the UN try to do - if we need to bomb them in order to save the innocent- let it be done. Nothing and no one should stop the US or others from protecting anyone in the world from genocide. Also, don't forget - sign up for UN newsletters and see for yourself how the dangerous and c...

It is possible these days to do one's own research of world events, and to dig deep into the underlying complexities. The story of Central Africa is not a news event (apart from entertaining 'spectacular' instances that provide pictures, shock, horror etc) but an historical unfolding from the heart of human darkness. To encapsulate this in a headline provides the customary here today gone tomorrow outrage that news consumers feed upon, but as ever the truth of journalese helps maintain the illusion of knowledge that keeps us, by personal choice, ignorant.

"Congo unworthy of mention? The answer is simple: in Sudan, the U.S. has a geopolitical nemesis to confront: Arabs, and their Chinese business partners. In the Congo, it is U.S allies and European and American corporate interests that benefit from the slaughter."

Simple minds produce simple stupid statments.

The public yells and screams about being in Iraq and how much they want out. Yet we stay because Iraq has become americanized in so many ways. But it has cost billions.

If you ask me, stepping into a violent country, when we've already learned all about ethnic conflics, is stupid. The victims and the perpetrators will be sorted out in heaven. That's the beauty of believing in a...

@rickwang. I suggested above that the clip is an invitation to conduct research into an historical event rather than an ephemeral news item. A general survey of African history over 300 years or so, with an increasing focus on central Africa then the shifting contours of what is now DCR would be a sensible preliminary exercise. Equipped with a broader intellectual ability to interpret historical sources, data etc. one would then move towards a position of studying the past 20 years or so of the DCR in its global political and economic context. This would allow an individual to begin assessing historical evidence, and a foundation for more detailed research. I do hope this advice is helpful.
