duvelic says: There are two environments, an inner and an outer... I agree. But the extreme level of gluttony for money and power, causes me to doubt the attainability of this goal. I have to admit I agree with you, kk. There are age-old, deeply rooted unhealthy mental patterns (based on fear) behind gluttony and we need to surpass these patterns somehow. Considering probable catastrophic consequences of our present trends I personally feel obligation to not give up. Momentarily everybody (science, technology, religion, philosophy and economy) are victims of the unhealthy mental patterns mentioned above, so no one of them can bring out healthy solution! NO ONE! From this point game is almost over. So it looks like there is only one last attempt left for us: we have to make – or at least we have to try to make – one real big step out of every possible boundaries of prese... duvelic, I agree wholeheartedly with the concept of sharing & I understand kkcapricorn's doubtfulness of this happening based on mankind's history but if I was in a boat that was going down & I needed to share my flotation device, provisions & so forth with somebody guess who it'd be? That's right, you, the one who had set a record of sharing! In fact my very survival might depend on my decision as to who to take on board. I believe that believers in sharing should keep on doing that(Like we're doing here on Clipmarks) & that will attract other like minds & spirits. Give power & thought only to what you want & none to what you don't want. Give power & thought only to what you want & none to what you don't want. That's the secret. What you think, you create. there are are ready plenty of sharing projects around eg: http://www.swaptree.com/ Swaptree is a new and innovative way for people to easily trade the books, CDs, DVDs and video games they are finished with, for the ones they want, all for free. http://www.bookcrossing.com/ bookcrossing n. the practice of leaving a book in a public place to be picked up and read by others, who then do likewise. http://www.freecycle.org/ The Freecycle Network™ is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. heres another one about living simply http://www.slowmovement.com/ This is a very important clip methinks, and also very timely. The main problem as I see it in attaining any sense of accomplishment in regards to sharing and helping to preserve and promote sustainability is APATHY and a sense of helplessness on the part of so many ..... what I choose to call the " I might as well continue amusing myself to death because I have no control over the outcome". To paraphrase a q OOPS ..... to paraphrase a quotation by Margaret Mead, " Do not become discouraged because you think you cannot accomplish anything worthwhile because you are only one person or just a small group, because anything of major importance throughout history has been accomplished by individuals and/or small groups of sincere dedicated people. I am beginni8ng to feel q oops again ..... I'm having keyboard problems. I'm beginning to feel energized and somewhat hopeful in regards to the impact we here at Clipmarks just might have on this q Oh hell, I'll try again after I regain some composure. #$@%@^ computer That's a pretty broad "we". :~) I thought this article was going to encourage me and suggest ways how to simplify *my* personal life. Giving up my computer, I know, would be a start; but alas, I'm addicted and need to learn restraint. "But the extreme level of gluttony for money and power, causes me to doubt the attainability of this goal" I agree with you KKcapricorn. Abuse of money, power, sex and now fame are the worms in every heart. Only if you let it. True Socs but the ability is still there. Read this the other day and I thought it was most profound. Perhaps someone else will too. "In Cherokee folklore, an old man tells his grandson about the eternal inner human battle. ‘My son, the battle is between two wolves inside all of us. One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith’. The grandson considers this for a moment, and then asks his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’ And the old Cherokee replies simply: ‘The one you feed’. Very good Michelle. A lot of wisdom there Guys, thanks to all of you for your valuable comments! Michelle, thank you for beautiful allegory about two wolves. Additional problem is that it seems these two wolves are not separated, so they transfigure one into another sometimes; and then what was right and good yesterday is harmful today. This is why we never have to stop to investigate, to stay alert. And this is why we need both wolves – they are here to teach us, to give us possibility of growth and self-improvement. I remember one similar quote: It is necessary to feed our dogs (wolves…); everybody feed them. But what wise man distinguishes from fool is that wise man works hard to recognize when it is right to start to feed his dogs, and when it is right to stop to feed them. |
