linkable wallpaper? don't think it's possible, but a very cool idea. An image map with links, posted on a webpage/blog, that could then be clipped ... very doable.

Actually, since windows 98, you've been able to use/create any web page and use it as your wall paper. It's called Active Desktop. Anyway, yes it would be possible to have it accessible from the desktop.

funana, can widgets actually do clickable wallpaper like Active Desktop? It seems simple enough, but I couldn't tell from the documentation. (I'm still on 10.3)

Ok, so after a bit of research I found something interesting. There's a way you can make a swf file your desktop wallpaper. Now that just opens up a ton of possibilities. Since Clipmarks (and many other web 2.0 apps) provides RSS feeds, you can stream the desired content to your desktop as well.

ScreenTime Media has what's called SWF Desktop. Compatible with PC and Mac. There's a trial version available. I gave it a go. For testing purposes I used your wallpaper and made an image map, got a few of the links going, and ran it. It was a bit pixelated since it stretches to fit any screen, but I was looking to test functionality. Important thing is that it works. You can switch be...

Hmm. Sorry, but Im a microslave/penguin mixed and dont have a clue. I just remembered the widgets and I thought that it has to be simple as I think that apple uses to make things simple. But no, sorry, no clue.

I find the swf desktop very interesting - but hell: I wont use that for me *g Im kinda oldschool with my desktop and my feedreader (I use trillian pro for that) triggers enough
