wow that's like some kind of ancient, rare, prehistoric creature! One that you would expect to be extinct. Even though they "cheat death", I bet there are only a few of them left in the world.

One question though: If I stomp on them will they die?

nature makes not such a failure - for a species, that don't die naturally, won't have much children. The outcome of a small reproduction-rate is less evolution. The nature is in these cases unbelievable effective. This species seems to be most possible = perfect evoluted for their construction. Molluskes are one of the first complex forms of life. For this step the species eventually has reached perfection - so it may survive the ages, but don't reproduce, or better: it has a very rare reproduction rate, because reproduction is only needed for evolution. So they will have less genetic diversity - for perfects is no reason to have.
